  • Need help with a new Picture

    Hi,

I took this photo of a UA Airbus A319 in Newark, I have improved the contrast a little and lightly sharpened the photos. Could anyone give me anymore suggestions.

At the moment it is slightly over sharp, needs CCW rotation, a little more selective contrast and maybe reduce the exposure in the sky.

Not overly keen on the air bridge. If you had moved to the right alittle more the angle would be much more preferential in my opinion.

        Hi,

I understand that the photo is a little oversharp and I can easily fix that, but I really don't understand the need for the counter-clockwise rotation. Should I crop out the jetway from the original picture? Also, I'm not real clear on what you mean by I should use "selective contrast" on the sky. I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and would appreciate if could explain what you meant.

Note: When the link loads, please click on the photo, for the actual size.

There is a distinct "lean" to the right which needs correcting.
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !

            Hi,

I have been trying forever to rotate the photo, but everytime I do it makes the rest of the photo look disalgned. If I remember correctly, when the plane came into the gate at a rightward angle, so I wondering if this could be the reason I can't fix it. I would be greatful, if someone could show me how to rotate the photo because I really can't do it properly.

Thank you for all of your help,

            Rohan

              Rohan,
I'm new to Aviation photography, and I'm not familiar with CS2, but I'd like to try and assist in some small way.

I use Nikon Capture NX, which has a very neat "auto" alignment tool. According to my attempts in NX, to have the "horizon" in your image closer to horizontal it needs a CCW rotation of about -0.52 degrees.

CS2 likely should have an option to allow you to enter such a value for rotation CCW.

              I hope this helps.
              Cheers.
              Michael.

Thank you for the advice, as rotating the photo worked really well. The horrizon is now aligend perfectly.

Thank you so much for the help,

I've been working on this photo a little more...

                  Hi,

I have been working a little more on this photo such as, reducing the exposure, sharpening it, and fixing that "lean." What else can do to it, to improve it? Also, is it possible if I fix it, for this photo to get accepted into the database?

                  Thank you,

                  Rohan

                    Rohan,

While your first version was oversharp, this one is a bit soft. Also, it could do with a tad more light, but don't re-edit your already edited version as this will bring out the noise...

                      Hi,

Just a quick question, how do I lighten up the photo? Do I increase/reduce the exposure or do something else? I have photoshop CS2, so if someone could tell me how to do that, I would be greatful. I'm selectively sharpening the origina photo right now and should have another version done in a few days.

                      Thank you for your help,

                      Rohan

Image > Adjustments > Exposure - 0._ _ (use your mouse scroll wheel to increase / decrease the exposure)

Or you can just email me the original photo to edit anytime.

                        Cheers - Vishal
