  • Sigma 10-20mm f4.5-5.6 EX DC HSM

    Hi there,
Does anyone use this lens for aviation photography?? I think this might be my next purchase (hopefully this week). I have seen some great wide angle photos on here but would like some feedback from those who have used this lens.

My idea for this lens is for close up final approaches, ie 747's, A340's and A380's

    Cheers
    Carl

You need to come very close with a 10-20.

      Hi Seahawk,
There are a couple of aproaches at Kingsford Smith (Sydney International) where the aircraft are very close overhead. I also have a 18-70mm but I would really like to get some dynamic shots with a wide angle.

      cheers

I have the 10-20mm lens. Something for very close up range. Will be uploading some pics shortly. So have a look in 2 or so days.

All those should be taken with the Sigma 10-20.

Take a look at my shots. A majority of the cockpit shots from recent have been with the 10-20. I've never had a problem with it other than a little vignetting but that's nothing that can't be fixed in photoshop.

I have that lens and its fantastic! A good deal of my recent JFK ramp shots were taken with it and I'm very happy with the results it provides.

I use the Canon 10-22mm and it's my favorite lens. My biggest client is a school board and a lot of times my 24-70 doesn't cut it with range as I have tight spaces to fit in.

I originally bought it for a project with the intent to sell it afterwards...it's been my go to lens in most situations.

With it being so wide you can get away with slower shutters and higher apertures.

I compared the Sigma 10-20 and Canon 10-22 for a long time, asked friends who use one of these, read reviews on and on. Finally I went with the Canon 10-22, which is a great lens for some close ups, but above all for landscape.

I personally went for the Sigma 15-30, as it was much cheaper, as it is discontinued here in Germany.

Not on digital, the Nikon for example has a 1.5 crop factor on the sensor which makes the the 10-20 actually a 15-30mm in the old 35mm film days. So it is not a fisheye....maybe one day I will get one...........

As said above the Canon 10-22 is not a fisheye. Surprisingly there is also very little distortion around the edges.
