  • Nikon D100 reference required

I'm planning on going digital before the end of the year, currently owning two film SLR's - the Nikon F60 and F100.

Recently I had to opportunity to try a Canon EOS10D digital, with an Image Stabilised 80-400mm lens, and found it was a great combination.

Has anybody had any experience with the Nikon D100 SLR and/or the Vibration Resistant 80-400mm lens?

    Regards, Mike

I have used one. Don't care for it. I don't shake that much... (yet :P ).

I've got both the D100 and the 80-400mm VR, and I think it's a great combination when used properly. The pictures come out exceptionally clear and sharp. The one thing that everyone's talking about is the autofocus being slow on the lens when being used with the D100, which is certainly true. The Nikkor 80-400mm VR would be the perfect zoom lens for the D100 if the autofocus was a little bit faster. Other than that, I think it's a great combination. Maybe someone else can shed some more specific details.

I use the F100 with the 80-400VR. Works excellent imo. I just limit the autofocus so no troubles with focushunting.

I think you meant the Canon 100-400IS L lens.. dont remember Canon having an 80-400mm lens.

Anyway, I have the D100 and 80-400.. find the combi not too bad, but the autofocus is slow at time, and sometimes hunting - this problem occurs when I use an older D100 but doesnt occur that frequent with my own D100 which is newer. I have to admit however, I have seldom used the VR facility, as i what I snap isnt the same as what i see in the view finder.
