  • Rebel xt AF points problem

I just bought a camera(350d) off Ebay. It was described as two weeks old. Tip-top shape. No problems whatsoever. Member has 100% positive feedback if that matters any.

Well, today, I am testing it out, and notice that when I decompress the shutter button halfway, the autofocus point indicators seem to be odd. The far left focus point red light is not lit at all. Even when pressing the AF point selection button. The bottom square red light, smears outside of the box. I took some photos and there was a black spot that I thought was a dust spot, but when I took off the lense and examined it, there appears to be a bubble in side the glass itself. What does this stuff with one AF point not being lit and one not in the box, but outside of it mean?

    Please help!

I was always warned to NEVER purchase anything used off eBay when it comes to photography equipment. Sounds like bad luck.

Even though I do alot of selling on Ebay, would never buy anything expensive unless I can pay and collect it locally. I dare say the seller didn't give you an original purchase receipt? I also take a guess it will be more than '2 weeks' old?

I would take it to your local camera shop and see what they think, it may nothing.

      Good luck.

The camera appers to be focusing fine without problems, the focus points don't seem to be affecting it. I think it is a defective lens because it has what looks like a small bubble the size of a grain of salt just suspended in the glass. What I would like to know now is if I only select the center AF point will that affect aviation photos? Does anyone only use the center focus point and turn the rest off?

Some people here use their camera for things other than aviation.

If it was the kit lens that has the bubble and not the sensor or mirror on the body of the XT then I would replace the lens. The kit lens isn't all that great. I bought the 350D body and then a Sigma 28-70 DG lens to compliment it. It's only about $30 more than the kit lens and it is well worth it. I hope you are able to solve your problem soon.
