  • Bad composition rejection

Hello, one of the best parts of uploading to JP.net is that the rejections help improve your personal standard of photography so I try and learn from rejections where I can.

However this one confused me a little - I understand two of the reasons but this was given a "Bad composition - aircraft not centered" rejection:

Trouble is I was trying to capture as many Virgin branded aircraft in one frame, so the Embraer had to be a little off-centre. Any thoughts? Is this one worth cropping differently or is this a give up and move on shot?

Theres a bit of dead space on the right hand side of the shot. The subject of the photo seems shifted to the left of the photo with nothing on the right. Maybe a re-crop with less dead space. I understand your trying to get Virgin Atlantic in, but it doesn't really add to the photo. If it was more prominent, and not so heat hazed then the idea might have worked.

A good way to check compostion on a shot is to edit it, then look at it again after some time, and take a step back (noses pressed to computer screens sometimes gives a false view) and have a look. Does the picture looked balanced as you first glance at it??

    Hope this helps

Love the shot. Just centre the Ebraer, sharpen the shot and your onto a good thing.

Basically the VS 346 adds nothing to the shot at all as there isn't much of it there at all and what is there is cut off and heat hazed. I understand what you were trying to do but unfortunately the result looks clumsy and unbalanced. Crop out the space on the right and you'll have a more balanced result.

You may still get a centered rejection
Crop is still unbalanced....too much dead space at top.
