  • Spotting at CDG

    Hello everybody,
I am planning on going for a spotting trip to CDG next Saturday (26 April 200. I would appreciate any information and advice I can get concerning good locations and especially the security situation. What is the best way to avoid trouble with local police?
Thanks a lot in advance for any input.
    Peter

I can't help you with the positions in Paris, as I haven't been in CDG yet, but I can tell you, that you'll need a permission for spotting in CDG from the Perfecture de la Seine-Saint Denis. You'll get it from them by snail mail if you request it by mail. If you haven't got this permission till now, you're a little late, when you do the trip next week, as it takes about two weeks to get it. With out this permission you can get lots of problems with the police and even get a fine.

      Permission for spotting ??????
      How ? Why ? Since When ?

Can you Peter or someone enlighten us on this.
Did it come about due to that holes-in-the fence incident ?

I know that the permission is required from a lot of time to now.

Infact, i will be at CDG in the second week-end of may, i have requested the permission to the Prefecture de la Seine-Saint Denis and they have sent to me the permission via air mail.

It was introduced 2 or 3 years ago and under the flag of "security reasons" as far as I know. There was a short time, photography was completly forbidden at CDG, and after that time the permission thing occured. But it's no problem to get this permission, I've heard from no one, who requested it and didn't get it.

This is only what I know, maybe some locals from Paris can tell us a bit more about what happened and why it was introduced.

Don't worry, Vishal... we are discussing the particular situation at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. You will still be fine without permission at the majority of large airports around the worl.

                Hi Paul,
well - I had to cancel the trip. Didn't get the permit in time. But maybe you can help me out here. The photo permit - how long is it valid? Thanks in advance for the info.

Peter, my permit is from last year (when i also had to cancel a trip) and as Longreach says it does nt have an expiry date. I did check this with the person that issued the permit and this was confirmed
