Tanner, your second picture isn't a very good advert for the lens.

It's horribly out of focus....and that wine glass is a really distracting item !!

If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !

You cant fault the 180 L! I love mine! (and so does Will)
Wanna use it for something other than macro?, Just go for it!

              Or getting up close?

My only gripe about the 180 is that it's not 2.8. However, that point is muted with the extra focal length making up for the not having 2.8.

You thought about 85L 1.2?? Or not long enough for your needs?

Maybe that it's $1800 and not a macro like he asked for?

Have you rented a lens? Most places charge you for the full amount of the lens until you bring it back, then refund the credit card for the amount not owed. That's a huge liability, say over a $200-$500 lens.

As wonderful as the 85 is, it's not a true macro lens.

Im going along to the rental shop tomorrow with a short list of possible lenses and ill see what they have and recommend.

Sadly it is true that they generally require a full deposit for the value of the lens. This is something I discovered when I rented the Canon 500mm prime for an airshow... $$$ Bet my bank got all excited with the thought of charging me APR on that, only to have their have hopes dashed when it went back into my account a few days later lol

Actually I have tried to, but didn't realise at first one had to pay the full amount, so I see where the issue with that is. Good luck Dan with whatever you decide to get!

I almost thought about getting one of those, until I saw the price tag....maybe not then!

That being said, if interested in buying a macro, want a long range but not huge cost, try the sigma 150 f2.8 macro.
