  • JetPhotos changing with Tech?

    Hi Everyone,

Just something that I thought should be suggested. Should Jet Photos look at changing default settings for photo upload?

Currently around 3x4 is the accepted ratio, most new cameras, by default take 4x6 pictures. On my camera this setting cannot be changed, and its 3 months old.

Also, with people buying larger screens for their computers, should the new max size be set at 1280 x xxx??

I suggest the size change also because picture quality, especially on mid-pro cameras, degrade significantly below 1280px.

And I suggest the ratio change because its almost like going from tv to widescreen

    Cheers
    Ben

    Ben,

We accept between 3:2 and 4:3 ratios. Your camera at 6:4 will produce correct ratio pics (6:4 is double 3:2).

The ratio limitations were put in place because a lot of people in the cropping process were doing some very weird and strange crops. In PS it is easy to lock your cropping ratio to one of the above. There are even presets in the newer versions.

I think the max horizontal pic size at the moment, 1600pixels, is fine at the moment. Many of these new LCD screens your mention are around the 1600 pixel boundary these days, and are only going to get bigger.

As far as the quality goes. it's up to the submitter to decide at what resolution the photo is submitted. If the quality isn't there it will certainly get a rejection. This is something that has been cropping up a lot lately in screening. People cropping to tight and expanding pics to 1200 pixels and above and the noise starts to look ghastly. A good think to remember.

    Hope this helps
