  • Bad Composition ?

This is just a polite enquiry into a rejection and i'm looking for help with this as i thought it would make an interesting angle.

    A. What exactly is wrong with the angle & compositon ?

    B. How can i edit/crop a photo (say this one itself) to get something similar into the database as i'm quite bored of uploading more or less same kinda angles.

    Cheers - Vishal

To be honest I actually love that shot! It brings to life the airport in the background. Even if it doesn't get accepted well done its a great shot.

        Did you appeal it?

While technically OK (regarding cropping), I personally somehow don't like this composition, the photo looks very unbalanced.

Just to make it sure: I didn't screen it.

No i havent appealed it. Should I ?
Or would it be rejected now as there's a slightly remotely similar shot which has gotten through [photoid=6239658] but then the difference with this accepted shot shows the full airplane & its portside.
Whereas, this one is starboard fuselage & portside wing !

I did screen it and thought a lot about it. It is technically sound, yet it feels very unbalanced to me. this might be caused by the haze that is making the background look a little dull.

Perhaps cropping so that both inner engines (left and right wing) are in the picture would look more balanced. But that composition would be quite similar to the accepted shot.

If the dull background is what put you off then it qualifies for an appeal i guess ?

IMO the shot you posted of it that got accepted shows the aircraft AND the airport background just as well, if not better than the rejected shot.

Dull in the sense that without the haze washing out the background it might would look more balanced.

Well not ALWAYS Brian but most of the times.

Though there have been times when i have been able to see well throughout the length & bredth of the airport however, thats not always the case as we do suffer from this phenomena quite a bit.

Wow it does look pretty bad. We get it sometimes pretty bad in the summer (bad enough to almost be IFR conditions), but it doesn't have that brown tinge to it. Yikes.

Vishal, i dont think you should appeal the picture on JP. I think you should appeal to the Mumbai government to get more environmentally friendly vehicles so there is less haze .

BTW, I like that angle. Too bad that darn pollution takes away from the background.

Hey man, What happened to the second spotting location south of RWY27? That would be a nice spot to capture some landing aircraft with panning motion blur. Just an idea to get some different shots/angles .

Another thing to try out, few minutes before dusk, get a close-up shot of aircraft fuselage side. That lighting will look cool. It will reveal the intricate maze of panels. (Too bad i cant get that angle in PHX)

                              regards,
