  • Delta 757 rejection

    Hello,

I just had my Delta Airlines 757 photo rejected but being undersharpened and backlit. See the photo below:

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=1917634

I am very disappointed in this rejection as the photo looks good. If I sharpen it more, I will get jagged edges all over the photo. Secondly the sun was well positioned for the photo and it is not backlit at all. How can this photo have been rejected. I was so sure this photo would pass the screening!!!!!

Well the first thing to notice is a lack of contrast in the photo. If you would correct this by adjusting the levels, it would look much more backlit. The fact that it is indeed backlit, is clearly shown by the shadow from the tail.

One of the KLM MD11 photos got rejected for being undersharpened. If the screener rejected the Delta photo for being backlit, than this photo would have also been rejected for being backlit but it only got rejected for being undersharpened which I also don't understand.

I am very mad to be honest.

        http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=1917634 - Nice shot Roger.
Mate the rejection is justified but only just, as its VERY marginal.
You mind sending the photo over to me ? i'll sharpen & light it up for you.

well i'd rather not comment on the MD11's (though this one - http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=1917651 looks the cleanest of the lot) but the 757 (http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=1917641) is indeed a BIT soft if u carefully look at the windows & the DELTA title

Not if you use either selective sharpening where it is needed...

or.....Create a layer, sharpen until jaggies appear, go back one step (Ctrl+Z), flatten image.
Create a background layer again sharpen again and rub out the jaggies. Flatten.

          Repeat as required.

          On your second post...

It should also have been rejected for backlit. The entire tailfin is in shadow as can be seen from the shadow being thrown over the rear fuselage.

Thank you all for your tips. I was just very mad especially because of my first Delta Airlines 757 rejection. That photo is of better quality even compared to my Arkefly 767 that was accepted. I don't understand why that photo did pass the screening, I really don't understand that.

My entire trip to Bonaire was worthless because nothing got accepted, except for the Arkefly photo which should also have been rejected as it is similar or worse than the Delta 757 photo.

I agree that the aircraft are a bit backlit but it is very marginal as already said. The photos in my opinion are within the margins of not being very backlit. The Delta Airlines photo is all I wanted to be accepted as I went to Bonaire especially for this. I was especially happy because I also got the new livery which is very nice.

Very disappointing. I find it hard to see that the photos are rejected because of minor backlit.

Hi Vishal, I'll send you my DL photo. Having that photo accepted will brighten my day a lot. It has really brought me down that an entire spotting trip was worthless because all the photos are rejected. Some of the photos really looked good enough for acceptance in my opinion.

Well me & my friend waited in the killing sun amidst hostile spotting conditions for 3 hours to nail a private jet for a friend of mine, who had specially requested me to do so as their religious leader was flying down in it.
Turns-out the sun had gone down & the damn plane still hadnt shown-up, with every passing 20 mins i had to keep bumping up the ISO one notch, by the time i had reached ISO 1600 (max ISO on my 400D) the plane was still nowhere in sight, the sun had gone down 40 mins ago. As we prepare to pack-up i get a call from my friend saying 'look-out guys it should come-in any moment now' & we're like 'yeah right'
Well sure enough as i hung-up the plane was right there & i was struggling to get things together to shoot it, well i did manage to click but no use as it was wayy to dark even for personal collection.

Thats just one incident, we went to Bangalore to shoot in the super hot sun - for 3 days coming back dark & under-exposed ourselves

And the CF card in which i had most of the images clicked on the last day with some of the best traffic, well........... my mate put it in his camera & hit the format button thinking i had copied all the images off it.
At that time i could ACTUALLY physically feel how a heart-attack victim would have felt.
But then i though of all the fun i had while doing it, which no one could take away from me.

And then going out in the evening, to hang out, oogle at good looking women oooh...makes you forget your sorrows very quickly

I do think about the CF card disaster at times though, Damn !!! Anyways.............

Well we have photos in our db with backlight but then there's got to be something special about it.
                [photoid=6010315] [photoid=6132076] [photoid=5925918] I hope you get the drift.

The second Delta 757 reject might has a little chance to make it. But with the light conditions of the day it will still be a close call.

Though you would have to carefully correct the curves, perfect the sharpness and get a perfect grey point. It will be a challenging edit.

Okay Seahawk and Vishal, thank you for your input and help. I really want my Delta photo to be accepted, that was my highlight and pleasure of my spotting day in Bonaire.

I hope not all is lost.......

Roger plz do understand, that the screeners are not against you, but the weather was. And in our screening we can not consider the personal importance of a photo to a single up-loader. First we could never know and secondly it would be very unfair. If you do like sent me a pm and I give you my private email and try some editing with the 757s on friday. (I am away for work tomorrow)

Hi Seahawk. Thank you for your assistance and explanation. I know personal importance is irrelevant as that would be unfair as you state. I was just so sure the Delta 757 photo would make it as I always compare all my photos with my previously accepted photos and other photos in the database. Hence my unpleasant surprise of this rejection.

I will send you a pm when I am home. Thank you for your help too.

Are you really doing trips only to get photos of planes accepted in some database on the internet?

Not a go at you just thinking thats the wrong priority.

Hi oe-vap, yes when I get a chance to do trips just for aircraft photography to put it on internet, I do exactly just that. It is my passion.
