A.net design change, wtf?

Search for an old photo in A.net, where you would bet, that nobody will ever have a look at it. Click it, wait a few minutes and watch the hit count ..... I and several other people can prove it: the hit counter will go up by 2-5 hits!! That's something we don't have here!! BTW, I reported this at A.net at least twice in the past few years, with the only result .... it's my fault .

What, you mean A.net artificially increases their numbers? Well I never!*looks at the supposed number of forum members on A.net(wherever the hell that number has disappeared to since the 'redesign')* Ahem...

Also if the new design stays in place, which is likely the case views will continue dropping. The hits are already going down...and DM will not care as long as the advertiments keep coming. As for my part I have stopped viewing and uploading over there for now - I'd rather create my own site on myspace and put my shots on there...at least in terms of site appearance it would not make a difference.

Since the moment came, about a year ago, that I started to upload, read and post on different aviation websites, A.net came out as the best for me.
The lay-out of the website, the number of uploads and the total amount of pics in de DB were amazing to me......................... at that time.
Then came the very moment I started to upload my first shots.
All the pics were rejected for different reasons, and after re-editing again rejected for other reasons.Finally it seems to me that your pics only have a chance if you are experienced with PS, rather than be a good photographer.When I posted that in the forum I was shot down instanly by the crew/screeners.

Then the time came, that I tried to read the JPnet forum.
That came as a totally surprise to me. What a warm and friendly atmosphere on this forum. Beginners and seniors talk to each other on the same level and every question of a beginner about a rejection-reason or a prescreen was answered by one of the senior members here as good as they can. GREAT!
And finally I started to upload here; just a few weeks ago.............with succes. And some of the pics,witch were rejected on Anet earlier are accepted now in the JP database.
All together with the DM bullshit on Anet a few months ago and the change of the website lay-out (I like the coloursettings btw, but not the overall lay-out) this makes the decision to move over from Anet to JPnet much easier.

That said, A.net is the number 1 website traffic wise, period. But for a privately run website, we're not doing that bad

So;that was a long story about how I came to JP.
I am a "100% JPnet- lover" now.
If I have my camera equipment changed to something better and hopefully have more pics accepted here, maybe I go for Elite member as well.

Bruce, if you use Internet Explorer without any adblocker, do the following:

I tried that today. The first time, it went up twice, but then went up once for each click. As for the jump of two hits, I can't be sure that was because of me or maybe someone else clicked on it once.

It much depends on the browser and security settings you use, perhaps also, the Windows version, don't know. Could be that one of their ads on a site is also part of the bug. Anyway, a lot of photogs I know, have tried it and confirmed that it works.

And all that combined with deleting all critical posts and banning everybody that dares to criticise DM. Looks like JP will soon be seeing increased views and photo uploads again .

I am happy to be part of that increased workload. I have not uploaded here before due to time limitations. I still upload to Anet but have found it cumbersome to view the photographers photos I enjoy keeping up with.

So far, I have found the upload process to be working quite well

I can confirm that a.net artificially inflates their view counts on the photos as I've also seen it. Also, lately my views seem to be doing just as well as they would have over on myplanes.net, and in some cases better, especially since that farce of a homepage went up.

I don't think that is true anymore. I started there first, then came here. It used to be that my photos there seemed to get a lot more hits but with the recent redesign, the hits have dropped considerably over there. My photos are now doing far better here in that regard.

I am also a switcher from A.net. I stayed throughout the original DM fiasco, but after they released the new design after not changing anything that the users wanted and having 10+ day queues, I had enough. I feel for the nice crew members that have helped me at A.net, but too much has changed for the worse.

I am really enjoying JP.net, everybody is friendly and the screening is much quicker. I love being able to edit information while a photo is in the queue. There is nothing that really is negative over here. I just see a site that is going up!

I stopped uploading THERE a year ago, when (I thought that) my pics improved thanks to better equipment - but the rejection rate went up to 100% - no, thanks, guys... I just want to share my often average and sometimes interesting pics with other aficionados, and by getting feedback, improve my skills. Impossible if s/o just refuses to host my pics ...

After the ToU troubles, I first quit on myaviation.net - pretty sure that many people just forget that it's the same servers when requesting removal from a.net! - and a few weeks later, I also had removed my pics from the OTHER site. Well, when seeing the mess they did now, I'm glad to be away from it.

Still, many jaw-dropping pieces of art are hosted there and the photographers have my full respect for the time and often money they spend for their hobbies.

But, as it is in real life, sometimes you cannot be at two places at the very same time.......... well, here I am

Nah, seriously: first of all, it's allowed here to publicly write A.net or Airliners.net without being shot or banned . Second, of course we're happy to provide a service which is apparently appreciated by our customers.

I for one have stopped uploading at A.net a bit more than a year ago and don't intend to upload ever again. For me it's simply not worth the hassle. They don't need me, I don't need them. The decision was made after a photo has been rejected 3 times, before - with MINOR changes - being accepted. It's now my most viewed photo, so go figure about the photo quality .....
