Still sometimes used my first digital camera (not DSLR) - Kodak DX6490 with 10x Optical zoom.

    Canon 18-55
    Canon 17-85 IS USM
    Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM

All my scanned images are from my trusted Olympus OM-40. Bought in 1985 and still works perfectly without a single visit to the doc or dentist . The lens for this were/are-
    Miranda 70-200
    Vivitar 70-210
Olympus 35mm (Although my experiece is not that great but it's one of the sweetest lens I have ever used)

I'm thinking of contributing to this site, but I'll lurk around the forums for a while and get a feel for what the place is like.

Looks like we are the only to Pentaxians on JP.

    Pentax K20D
    Tamron 28-80
    Tamron 75-300

I checked out the Canon and Nikon bodies in the K20D's price range and they felt too plasticy & fragile for my taste. The K20D feels like it is built like a brick shit-house.

My equipment hasn't really changed much in the last 3 years, so I'm using:

-Canon 350D and 30D (both have been seriously hammered but they're still working)
    -Sigma 50-500 DG
    -Canon EF 70-200L f/4
    -Sigma 10-20

I was going to update the 30D with a 50D at the end of last year but I treat myself to a 27 inch iMac (which was more important to have than a new camera really) so the 50D will have to wait a little longer!

At the moment i'm using :

Canon EOS20D (not that I particularly love it, but I could affort it...)

    Sigma DC 18-200 3.5-6.3
    Sigma APO DG 170-500 5-6.3

But I'll be leaving my student status in a short while so I may go for a 100-400 and a 40D.

    Okay.
I was thinking of maybe getting a 40X. It's just that once I get a body I will have that body for a long time (I don't get a re-issuable budget)

Is there any point spending an extra 200 or so dollars to get a D60 or should I get a D40X and buy a second lens with larger zoom?

Plus I feel where I go spotting (NZWN) you can get very close to the aircraft and you need to be able to manually change certain things that to wait a short while for a point and shoot to react...

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Well, it makes getting good shots easier. I can get shots taken with a years old Coolpix 5700 into the db, but that means lots of careful handling and some luck. With a DSLR it is much easier.

If you are serious about a DSLR plz remember that bodies come and go, while lenses stay. So a D40 might be better if you can get a better lens with it.

I want to get a DSLR (using a Kodak Easyshare doesn't really cut it).

Is it worth spending the odd $1000 (NZD) for an entry level DSLR such as the Nikon D60?
Does it enhance your photos greatly? (Just checking)
