[COLOR=black][FONT=Verdana]Hey guys I'm considering getting the Canon 17-40 f/4 L lens and I wanted to know what you guys thought about it. I've been looking into getting a wide angle lens that isn't too expensive but I also wanted the L quality. I ran across this and it looked good. Just wanted to see if anyone has used it and what your thoughts were. Thanks

I own it and replaced a Sigma 12-24 with it.
Nothing against the sigma, just 12mm is incredibly wide and when i replaced it i was planning on moving into the full frame line of cameras as soon as possible. My priorities have shifted somewhat so yeah, that never happened.
The 17-40 is a great wee lens, pretty wide on a DSLR however its no 10-22 (or 12-24), you'll be happy with its sharpness and such so yeah. Cant go wrong with it.Sam Rudge
A 5D3, some Canon lenses, the Sigma L and a flash

That lens is what the 70-200 f4 is to the 70-200 f2.8.Tanner Johnson - Owner

In other words, it's the cheaper version of a 2.8 (16-35) and it's good.Tanner Johnson - Owner

I use the 17-40L and love it. You don't lose much compared to the 16-35 except perhaps in really challenging light conditions where the extra F-stop or better quality glass is needed.

The 17-40 F4L is a great lens for it's focal range, but if you are looking for a wide angle I think the Sigma 10-20 is a great lens, the extra 300 USD for the Canon 10-22 is just not worth it I think, escpecially when they deliver almost the same quality.
Cheers
