Indeed I do have a Facebook page where I share All my aviation photographs including those I upload to Jetphotos. I do share All of my photos on FB groups including those I upload to Jetphotos. The general intent is to share with everyone including those that do not visit Jetphotos. I joined Jetphotos more then ten years ago out of the same intent to share in a then Facebookless era. In this time and age, I dont think this practice of sharing photos on FB is manifestly rare or criminal.
Personally I find it ludicrous to label the practice of sharing my JP photos on Facebook as cheating.
However if Jetphotos introduces an official policy against a JP photographer sharing his JP photos on FB , I will be more than happy to toe the line. I will then share only those photos I do not upload to JP.
I would remind my accusers to think twice before labelling anyone as cheating or a cheat in their daily living.

The thread is about date cheaters and, rightly, what can be done to discourage them. It will be quite common for people to share their photos across many different platforms and that can give the effect of seeming to artificially inflate the views. My understanding is that this is not actually against the rules. I personally am not a huge fan of this as I would like the top photos to be photos that I look at and wonder how the heck the photographer managed to pull that shot off, but this is a personal preference only. As photographers uploading to a site that is mostly run by hard working volunteers, we should show some respect and not always be in a rush to be on the front page at the expense of others more deserving. Sometimes I see my photos creeping up onto the first page and this appears to be because the photo went very quickly onto FR24, usually it's Lufthansa, so this possibly artificially inflates the views. It's nice to be one of the top shots, luckily it's happened once or twice for me, no big deal if it's not. There has been talk before of removing the views, but I would still like to have an easy way to identify the really good new photos and these always make it to the top. As long as the rules are followed, the problems might be worth living with.
Without meaning to offend anyone, I wouldn't like to be named and shamed publicly. If there is an issue then maybe a private email involving those concerned would be more appropriate.

I agree that it probably would have been better not the give the names her in public forum but via PM. Otherwise there really is something that needs to be done about linking JP pictures in lot's of FB pages to rease the views. Sorry to say it and wouldn't offend anyone but i personally expect awesome pictures as a topshot, not a regular British Airways A380. It happened many times that the pictures which in mine opinion look awesome don't make it to the frontpage.

As long as photos are promoted based on human interactions, be it views, likes, shares, etc., we will unfortunately always have a massive amount of manipulations, as seen by the regular photos ending as top shots, just because they are linked in a great variety of virtual social groups. I often keep wondering, what that fuss about hits is ... why are some people so keen to get a maximum amount of views? I can't understand it.

The problem with Facebook groups is, where do we draw the line? Posting the photo on six groups with 250 members is no different to positing it on your personal account with 1,500 friends. The issue with have, in some cases, is uploaders posting links elsewhere with false headlines such as "Boeing 747-800 crashes on landing" for a standard approach shot.

I see no problem about sharing a pic on FB, on your page - It's true that when someones makes a linking post to JP on FB, and then shares that post on numerous groups (yes sharing to 20+ groups is really A LOT) it gives a huge amount of views that can be considered a non very fair play - I always say that if you're not looking for views, then you just post the pics directly on FB, not the JP link but that's just my personal point of view...
And yes I agree, it's really hard for me to understand how views can be THAT important for some of us...
We are a bit far from the original topic but it's good to have the opinions coming up about an issue that we've been discussing a lot among the crew...

PS : And yes, putting names up like that was really rude, that's why I contacted Fablee to give him the right to answer here

Sometimes the idea is bounced around among crew members about getting rid of the public viewing stats for each image. Perhaps it would be a good idea...

A little bit off topic but is this enormous number of views at the following pic also caused by FB sharing?
More than 230k for a prop...
