QUALITY Rejections

Hi,
As you have noticed, the queue has grown again. Sure lots of screeners are on vacations, me included but there's one thing you need to know.

Lately, we have never seen such a high level of quality votes. Recently we would really rarely use that rejection reason because there was no reason to do so but today.... I would say that 1 out of 15/20 pics gets an instant quality rejection. With a queue at 18000+ that makes a ton of low quality shot.
We fully understand that it's never easy to start a new hobby or start uploading, editing and so on but... if you read our upload guideline and learn some just basic photography and editing quality rejection should NEVER happen.

So yeah we're sorry if you got your whole queue deleted or got quality rejections but please realize that filling the queue with very low quality shots is really not helping the site or the community so we would like to ask something.

If you just started uploading to JP, DON'T UPLOAD if you didn't read the upload guideline. After reading it, use the forum, ask for advices and only upload a few pics. Just by doing that you would help us and the community a lot and you would very quickly improve your photography and editing skills.

Hi Alex,

Maybe one idea which maybe could help. Is it possible to do a sort of quality check while loading the uploaded picture ? A check done by the website when the image is loaded but not added to the queue ?

Or maybe a picture that is 1200×800 px the size needs to be at least 500kb (just an example) ?

Currently around 13 till 16 days in queue is very long time. I mean I never had a quality rejection as far as I can remember.

But I would also happy to see the queue more down maybe to have it at max around 7 days. If these „quality“ rejections causing the problems I would also happy to see maybe a kind of prescreening or something like that.
But I sadly have no idea how to do that on a way where no one gets wrong rejections etc.

Yeah we don't want to take that road which would get us the famous "no sun on aircraft" ridiculous rejection reason that is used in some other places. we actually added the following sentence on the upload guideline.
"Please note that photos taken in bad weather conditions are likely to be rejected for contrast reasons, unless the weather aspect adds something to the photo. Just like on this photo where the bad weather isn't adding anything to the photo"

But thanks for the suggestion, really not a big fan of those grey weather shot either

I also don't like photos with bad light conditions that taken during bad weather, but I think that you should have to take into account that many people have invested money and time to travel to other countries, but they had bad weather.
It happened to me personally and that's very disappointing.
Therefore I don't think such photos should be rejected out of hand. Just my two cents...

I'm not a fan of such photos either. But that does not mean, photograhy in bad weather is impossile. Sometimes weather can improve a photo, but not those light grey washed out backgrounds. A photographer can look for another location with something else than just grey sky as background, maybe taxi shots.

So, yeah, I would welcome more rejections for photos of dull looking aircraft with light grey background.

This already happened to me that I booked a week for spotting at NYC but the weather was just terrible. Instead of going out for spotting I kept my equipment in the bag and drove somewhere else for sightseeing. There are always other possibilities
I just hate to edit pictures which were made under bad conditions and don't like to see them on JP too.

First you need to contact me and find out if I'm going. If I am then cancel your plans because it WILL rain or be generally shit weather.

I think it's pretty bad idea to have how much money you've spent to get pics dictate whether they are accepted or not. If you decide to take the chance to spend the time and money to go somewhere spotting, great, that's your decision, but it should in no way affect how your images are screened. Otherwise, the potential for a class division arises. Think of all the people who can't afford to take a flight anywhere for spotting. Are you truly saying your images deserve more of a chance than theirs simply because you could afford to spend more money?

We've all had bad luck with the weather; just accept it as part of the hobby, and don't bring how rich you are into it.
