  • When you appeal....

    Hi all,

When you get a rejection, you have the right to appeal it. To make it a good experience for all, let me just remind you a few simple things.

    1) Be absolutely sure that you have checked the rejection email BEFORE appealing ! Nothing is more frustrating for us to see you ignoring the efforts we make by leaving messages to help you understand your rejections.

    2) If you fail to understand a rejection reason, first check the upload guideline carefully : https://forums.jetphotos.com/showthr...ES-New-version

    3) Be polite, abuse of language is just not acceptable. Things like "re-screen it !!" or " I don't accept the rejection, change it !" isn't acceptable. In general things like "hi guys, I don't agree with the rejection for X reason. Could you please have another look at it, thanks" are just perfect - Just remember we are humans, not machine, and a minimum of respect is always good.
Note that the worst abuses of language like "you son of a b." or "F. you all" will just get you an immediate life ban.

    4) And yes, please leave a message... Appeals without messages will be rejected without consideration.

    5) We're only talking about your picture. So picking up an other picture with the classic argument "if this was accepted my picture should be accepted too" just won't get you anywhere. Out of millions of photos accepted on JP, there are a few that were certainly accepted by mistake, that doesn't mean we should do that mistake again.

    6) just an advice, wait an hour or 2 before appealing. We have too many people that would appeal, seconds after the rejection. They certainly didn't take the time to really check their rejection. It's also good to relax a bit and not appeal on anger.

    7) Please use our forum if you have any questions. Appeals are not the place to ask questions.

And finally, don't abuse the appeal function. We have MANY uploaders which would make an appeal on every batch of rejections, that's just too much.

We sincerely hope everyone would pay attention to the points above

    thanks a lot

    Alex

How can it be possible with only one appeal allowed per day?

      Hi Alex.

Very clear explanation. will take good note of it , because some things are affected for me, but I will never use rough language.
A critical note for me to you all is I almost never receive an explanation for a reject. Things like under/overexposed , horizon unlevel , bad cropping/centering and most of the time undersharpened are very clear.
However, a small explanation for undersharpened in some cases would be appreciated sometimes for example in this case https://www.jetphotos.com/viewqueued_b.php?id=6545640
Also for color and contrast rejects an extra explanation would be appreciated
My first attempt for this one, was rejected for too little contrast.
Dana explained about the contrast in my pre-screen thread and I tried to fix it properly.
So I didn't agree with the undersharpened and the color reject. And a misunderstanding by me about the special scheme did guide me to an appeal in this case.
The appeal was rejected, but the screener who handed the appeal was very clear in his explanation.
And I also learned something new about the guidelines
I reworked the photo and it's in the queue again.

Sometimes I receive rejects with reason which are not affected on the entire photo itself.
Last year I received a reject for three reasons, I didn't agree with all. after appealing only one remained.
So I will be careful with appealing but some extra explanation and right reasons filled for reject by the screeners will be very appreciated by me.
In my opinion, with these advices, it would take the screening team a little less time to the pre-screening threads and you could all focus a little more to the queue.

Keep up your great work all anyway.

      Best Regards,

      Wilko

if your appeal is accepted you're not limited.
Abusing the system is making an appeal on every batch of rejection.

If ones managed multiple appeals per day, which means that all of them are granted, doesn't it mean that it is not the photographer who abusing the system?

I totally agree with all your list through, except #5. It's sometimes a great puzzle for photographer when from two similar shoots of similar quality taken 2 min apart from same position with same settings and similar editing one goes through and other is rejected, even more strange if it happens when both screened in one batch. BTW, on one other well-known site there was a couple of take-downs in similar cases AFAIK

Also when the appeal is rejected the appeal slot opens up.

I have quite s nice example to show of how people abuse the appeal function.

One shot uploaded as hot for new reg. Was rejected for bad info with the remark what was wrong.

Instead of reading this, the appeal was immediate.

After the appeal was rejected with again a remark of why it was bad info, surprise, the uploader again uploaded the same shot as hot with again the same bad info.

Again rejected with again a remark why.... but guess what. Immediate appeal ..... and once again rejected with now even the link to the correct info.

So this IS abusing the appeal option. We expect uploaders to take also some effort to check why a shot is rejected in the 1st place. Not just click appeal and ask us questions on which we allready gave an answer for in the rejection mail.

Isn't it in contrary with this announcement?

Changes to the appeal process - effective July 2016

As of now photographers will be able to file one appeal per 24 hours.

This is not strange at all, there's never exactly the same condition, even with pictures seconds appart. There's too many factor that can vary, the light angle changes when you take a picture seconds appart. Speed, aperture, hand shaking, wind, heat haze and editing, all that are variable. And about editing, I strongly believe that each picture deserves its own editing, due to the previous reasons mentioned.

                cheers

Speaking in general, yes. But when one such shoot goes through and another similar is rejected as "backlit" or "part of aircraft cut off" it doesn't apply

The first helicopter shot was very borderline but the screener involved thought it was too nice to reject. The 2nd one, the bad dust removal pushed the screener to vote reject. You got a pass on one shot that was specially nice, even being technically backlit by our standards. I understand it's confusing but again, it's not a perfect science and even if it's confusing, I'd rather have a few shots accepted even if they go against our standards than screeners-machines that would only apply a guideline and that's it.

Speaking of me, I filled 2 appeals since last year and 7 in a year time frame
Hope it's not counted as "appeal abuse"

Thank's for clarification, Alex. I'm still not agree with "backlit" or, as it formulated in other site, "no sun on aircraft" as a technical reason for rejection - sometimes the whole event can be only shoot in counterlight by general public (applied for example to MAKS and Kubinka at my place) but it's a discussion for another thread.

That's unfortunately part of the Hobby... never been to Kubinka but MAKS offers the platform on the other side of the runway. I know it's really expensive if you don't have a press pass but there's also positions from the outside, even if they aren't that confortable, the police wasn't chasing people away this year when we were there. Also from the other side of the river, you are in a good position for the flying displays, sun on your back and it's free.
