Yea, Yea Yea, I have a Nikon D100 DSLR. So what? It's a digital SLR and I'm a nikon type guy. Had it for a year now and I'm very pleased with it.
Thanks to my tax returns, I'll have some spending to do in a few days with the D100. Going top notch, baby.

It all depends on how you use it. You only get what you put into it, out of it. But essentially, it should be.

Can anyone give me a straight answer? Will a Z1 be good for Aviation photography, or do you recomend something else?

    No.

It has all the auto modes for beginners and the creative modes to mess with shutter speed, etc.

    DITCH IT

Join us on the DSLR side. :P

    There is no going back.
Hopefully I'll be able to do that in about 3 or 4 years. By then I hope to have used my 717 to its fullest capabilities and perhaps beyond.

    Amen.

I guess I should respond to the orignal post. Sony F717, and yes, I have little to complain about the F717. Great amateur/prosumer camera. I'm already thinking about upgrading to a DSLR in a few years.

Well, it's never let me down, even in poor light.
Although it's reportedly a 'noisy' camera by some users in low light situations, low sun/sunset is the time I shoot most of my 'plane photo's.

I can't compare it to any other camera because I honestly don't know any better
but the number of rejections I get here is nil here and virtually nil elsewhere.

    A Sony '707

By the way some guys in here talk about the 'budget' Canon Rebel/D300 it would seem I have got a museum piece on my hands.

No plans to change it yet.
I don't need any more telephoto 'zoom' or 'possibilities'.
Life is still good to me at the auld local strip.

The DX4530 is very cheap, too. I bought it for $359 Canadian!
