Thanks Dlowwa! Is the issue with the Fedex that I've brought the shadows up too much? I tried to select just the plane to remove the halo effect but I'm guessing it isn't enough. I have done a re-edit below using just the curves and contrast sliders. Is this more on the right track?

I have the same opinion like dlowwa. But these reasons are fixable. Try to add more sharpness and don't use the shadow/highlight function in your editing software (and if you shot JPEG and have a Nikon - set "D-lightning" to off).
Of course correct the exposure - you can check this with the histogram in Photoshop or with the screening tool on JetPhotos.
