    but personally both images look to be lacking contrast possibly due to the overcast/cloudy weather.

    If you're going to be that close to the aircraft (i.e. shooting mostly the belly), you'll definitely want to have the sun at a lower angle, otherwise you're shooting either bright reflections or shadows.
