Got this picture rejected for "Too Much or too little contrast"

In my opinion it is too much.. looking at the histogram: on the right side (that shows the contrast) there is a "peak" too high.

you can try to remove contrast and some shadows.

That's not true, quite often there is too much contrast. Your friend is wrong.

Got this picture rejected at the same time.

But I've been wondering which categories have been "wrong" or "Missing"?. Also here I feel the contrast is correct. Given the fact that its taken before sunrise.

Looks like too little contrast. Doesn't look to me like it fits night shot from the look of the shot.
