  • Confusion with reject advice

    Hi,

I'm new here, but am getting a bit frustrated with the number of rejects I am getting when I feel my photos are a lot better than many that are accepted.

The main issue is the reasons being given are often contradictory and do not actually give any reason for the reject.

    Things like

    under/over exposed
    over/under processed
    bad processing
Backlit - does that mean overhead/good paint job reflecting

    etc

It would be nice to get a positive reason.

    Couple of photo's recently rejected.

Camera is a D850 and there is very little post processing because it is not needed.

But when I go from a 95 mp file to a 2 mp file to suit the 1280 requirement obviously some detail is lost.

    Some advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks...

Hi. Regarding the two pics you have posted as an example, all the mentioned reject reasons are MORE than obvious. They are backlit, meaning the light source was behind the planes and not behind your banck, hence they are very very very dark. Also, they look like HDR images , so waaaaaay too much post processing, hence bad / over processing.

There is an editing guide in the forum, written long ago, so if you have a little time to search for it, it will be much helpfull. Better luck next time with your uploads

Everyone thinks their own photos are great, and rightly so, but unfortunately they sometimes do not meet our quality standards. Even just today I had some rejections and this is with 14k plus photos in the database . I used to take it really personally and would get angry about it but over time I've learnt to not let it wind me up and just to take it on the chin, re-edit or move on and let it go. We have a set of quality standards that we ask you to achieve in order to feed quality photos through to the likes of FR24. This is not everyone's cup of tea however and there are other platforms out there that don't require editing which people prefer to use instead.

So, if you decide you want to have your photos here we ask that you read all the guidelines, ask for help in these forums as you have done. It does take some effort to get things right. Standards have moved upwards over the last few years and our acceptance criteria has become stricter compared to the early days. If it's not for you we won't be offended. Good luck!

        Thanks for the replies.

I have read the guideline a couple of times.

        Starting to sink in.

I have noticed that some photos are shown on the Forum for comment before uploading.

Is there a special section for this ?

I took the attached photo this morning with attention to backlighting and have reduced the glare slightly.

Pre-screening is offered here - on this same thread that you have started - one thread per user - and again, it's noted in the advice - pre-screen before uploading to JP. but attach the images in line here.

              Pre-screening Advice thanks.

              Hi,

I would appreciate some comments on this photo.

The re-sizing has caused some "steps" between the blue and black line that concerns me.

              Thanks

Contrast is a bit too harsh. The sharpening artifacts you note should be acceptable since they are hard to avoid with fine lines/transitions like that.

                  Thanks for your reply.

I have reduced contrast quite a bit.

                  Revised photo attached.

Better. Still borderline, but would be acceptable for me.
