Where would a helicopter be in the frame if it was centred?

This is a dusk image from a ship with a 100mm lens. The histogram extends from 0-255 obviously I can bulge the curve differently.
The lettering seems as sharp as many images to me,

You have centered the helicopter as the overall machine including gear and rotor, however you need to have it centered, so the center of the fuselage is centred.
So in general, in most cases you do not care about gear tail and such stuff mostly. The point that you should care about when centring is to have the top edge of the fuselage in an approximately same distance from the top edge of the shot as the bottom of the fuselage from the bottom of the shot.

Not a screener however heres my opinion; significantly low in frame, it is fairly dark as well. I’d say it’s just a touch soft, add a little more sharpening.
