  • Prescreening Advice - maxtheplanespotter

Hi, I’m new to jetphotos and I recently submitted these photos which ended up getting brutally rejected. Is there any advice/critiquing I could get on these so I can fix them?

    Thanks.

    Hi, these would be rejected.

    1. centering, cut off, oversharpened, vignetting
    2. backlit, dark/contrast, cut off, oversharpened, centering
    3. vignetting, cut off, borderline dark
    4. heat hazed, dark, centering, cropping/ratio
    5. backlit, centering, cut off, oversharpened

Only #3 has a chance of being accepted if edited properly.

Thanks for the feedback. what do you think about these? I think the quality may have been totally messed up in all of them converting into 1280

Please read here carefully when you get the chance, especially #3:

And as it seems you haven't yet, it would be good to review these as well:

Hi!, im not an screener but i can give you some advice.
for me the only one that you can fix is number 2 (united airbus) but you will need to not oversharpen it, center it in a proper way (it is very low in the frame), fix your horizon and also not cutting off the APU
i hope my advice helps you

                        1. oversharpened, overexposed, dirty, compression, vignetting
                        2. oversharpened, overexposed, compression, centering, cropping/ratio
                        3. compression, oversharpened, cropping/ratio
                        4. backlit, compression, oversharpened, centering, cropping/ratio
                        5. compression, oversharpened, overprocessed, cropping/ratio

With correct settings, converting to 1280 doesn't 'ruin' quality. Either the quality wasn't there to begin with, or you are not downsizing correctly.

Again, if you had actually took the time to read here, you would have realized that 4 out of 5 of these would be automatic rejections for cropping/ratio and being backlit:

Please make the effort to read when you get the chance.

For your information, I have read that forum. I personally would not be self diagnose those problems with my photos because I am a beginner when it comes to this kind of stuff. Thank you for your feedback.

What do I need to change about the cropping? what is the difference between over sharpened and over processed. Also When you say compression do you
mean the quality is messed up from compressing it into 1280? Thanks

Sorry to be curt, but a lot of your questions would be answered if you actually took the time to read the link (and what I said previously). I told you the quality will not be 'messed up' by downsizing if you use appropriate settings. All of your other questions are answered in the link:

                              • Photos can be uploaded with an aspect ratio between 4:3 and 3:2, or at an aspect ratio of 16:9.
                              • 6.2 Compression
Save your images at a high JPG quality or low compression settings. Saving at low quality settings or using a high compression rate is great for saving disk space but it means you are losing large amounts of quality from the image, areas which are the first to show signs of over-compression are where colors border each other in particular the registration and cockpit areas.
                              • 6.5 Oversharpen
All images require a degree of sharpening to make them acceptable to JetPhotos but if you overdo it the picture will look worse than when you started. Oversharpening can be recognised by the formation of jagged lines along cheatlines, wing edges and tail fins, in addition to this if you oversharpen an image it can result in a 'halo' effect appearing in areas of high contrast and in increased noise. Using a wrong method for resizing (Bilinear, Nearest Neighbour) can also create an oversharpened effect.
                              • 6.7 Over Processed / Bad postprocessing
This rejection may apply to photos which simply look over processed. This can be for example an improper use of noise removal programs up to the result of getting a plastic like look or smudgy edges. Also, halos caused by wrong sharpening settings or other wrong post processing settings, will result in a rejection.
If something there is unclear, then please come back with more specific questions.
