  • Jay_Kitt48 - Photo feedback/questions following rejections

    Hello all,
I am very new to JP, and I've just gotten my first lot of photos screened (1 accepted, 4 rejected) .
I'm not too sure if I'm posting this in the right place, however I was wondering if anyone would be able to give any feedback or advice on these photos and why they may have been rejected, as well as how I can improve these for future submissions, or if it is worth altering and resubmitting/appealing either of these?

A7-BGB was rejected for low contrast (would it be worth increasing the contrast and resubmitting?)
VH-ZND was rejected for overexposure, undersharpened, and too much/little contrast (would it be worth fixing either of these up and resubmitting or is it not worth bothering?)
A6-EUS was rejected for unsharpened, and categories wrong/missing (the incorrect categories one confused me the most as on the surface I couldn't see anything that I did wrong. For reference I used autofill).
9V-SWV got rejected for dust spots (I missed this initially but when looking back at the dust spot checker a faint, but large one does show up)

I can see why these were rejected and I do agree with the screeners mostly. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated here!
    Thanks,
    Jay

    1. contrast is too harsh
    3. Night Shot
    4. Cargo

Quality is not too bad, they might be fixable with better edits.

I see, thank you for your response!
I must have overlooked the night shot but when I was reading through the guidelines initially. I did notice with the QF and EK shots (expecially EK) that the raw files themselves were quite contrasty. Would it be beneficial to reduce the contrast on those two, and increase the contrast on the Qatar one, as well as sharpness on all and maybe resubmit?
      Thanks again

It would stand to reason that if the contrast is too harsh and image too soft that reducing the contrast and sharpening would help, yes.

I will have a look at that all and tidy them up in a bit. Thank you for the feedback once again!
I'm not sure if this has been posted or asked anywhere else but what are the most preferable ways of compressing images so they are within the required resolution? I feel some of the softness may be linked to the way I compressed the photos.
          Thanks again!

Ideally as little compression should be applied to your images as possible.

I had a play around with the editing again and re exported them (plus two others). Any feedback on these again would be great!

                1. soft
                2. soft, horizon
                3. soft
                4-5. soft, borderline (harsh) contrast

Also please read here carefully when you get the chance:

As there seem to be some unwritten rules that are missed by newer users, here are a few suggestions for when you would like editing advice/prescreening from the crew: If asking for prescreening/editing advice, please title your thread "(username) - prescreening request / editing advice" Prescreening is offered

                3. Please limit your prescreening requests to a maximum of 5 images per 24 hours (not calendar day)
