    I would guess it looks like overuse of highlights/shadows not sure though

    Horizon looks fine enough to me on both, but the overall quality might be lacking (blurry)

    I have a question regarding the horizon alignment in panning shots. During a recent night spotting session at JFK airport, I captured many shots of planes departing. Given the low shutter speed I utilized (1/20), resulting in considerable background blur, how should I ensure proper alignment of the horizon?

    That's a different image from the one you uploaded, so in fact I never said it would be 'fine'. I'd be careful about trying to put words into my mouth.

    Giant bright spot in the middle of the frame, and poor vignetting removal as well on the first.
