  • Dysko - prescreening request / editing advice

Last month I attended the Italian Air Force AMX phase-out ceremony.
Obviously, due to Murphy's Law the sun was covered by clouds for the few minutes in which the planes passed in front of my camera during landing (take-offs were with sunny weather, but they were on the other side of the airport...)

I understand the general consensus is "No photos with bad weather". However, I'll try posting a couple of pictures in this thread to see if they are worth uploading in the queue, since it was a unique event (obviously I'll upload photos without watermark, I've had quite a streak of photo thefts in the last years).

Another issues I'm having with these photos is the "flat sky" in the background, that causes banded sky when saving the resized picture (equalized pictures attached, banding is visible in the resized photo only, original size pictures don't have this issue).

    Thank you very much!

Contrast is unfixable on both, sorry, but not worth uploading.
Everything that say is in my opinion, a screener might dissagree
If you are dissapointed of yourself, look at me and feel better.

      Contrast is probably too poor.

Banding can be avoided by converting your raw files to 16-bit tiffs, editing/resizing, and then saving as 8-bit jpegs as a final step. If that doesn't solve the issue, you're introducing compression somewhere else in your process.

I'm being VERY unlucky with weather this year...

Would these stand a chance with contrast?

My streak of bad luck keeps going on!
Last monday I went to Aviano AFB, as 2 Hellenic Air Force Phantoms and 2 F-16s, and 2 Royal Jordanian Air Force F-16s were supposed to perform a fuel stop on their way back from the Air Tattoo.

We were following the livestream, and the Jordanian Vipers were among the first departures! Too bad France denied them overflight clearance and they had to divert to Belgium!
The Hellenic Falcons took off shortly after, and I managed to get them with a decent lightning.
Only the Hellenic Phantoms were missing... They took off while we were having dinner, and we calculated that they would be landing at the worst time, with the sun perfectly aligned with the runway axis!

So here I am asking if the lightning in the Phantom photos is acceptable (obviously I'll upload them without watermark)

Actually the first one arrived with the sun covered by a small passing cloud, which on one hand prevented harsh shadows, but on the other hand, being taken without sun, might lead to a contrast rejection:

The second one arrived few minutes later, with the sun already shining on this side of the fuselage, albeit at a high angle, creating harsh shadows:

            Your opinion on these pictures?

            Thanks in advance!

              1. borderline, but I'd probably say no
              2. if brightened, might have a better chance

                Would this picture:

Be considered double with either https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/11415322 or https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/11392638 ?

                And would this one:

Be considered double with https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/11398756 ?

All photos were taken at the same event the same day.

2024 will go down as my most unlucky year weather wise.
                    So far

I managed to encounter bad weather at almost every event I attended (while in 2023 I almost always got sunny weather).

Some pics from a couple of recente events, I'm asking if they would have any chance especially regarding contrast.

Jesolo Air Show 2024, French Rafale solo display

Jesolo Air Show 2024, Swiss Hornet solo display

1st Aeronautica Militare Balloon Cup, SPAD XIII replica

1st Aeronautica Militare Balloon Cup, the only airworthy G.91 in the world

For this one, I'm asking if it would fit as motive. It is the interior of a decommissioned hot air balloon in which people could walk, kept inflated by a pair of fans (no burners, luckily! )

                    Thank you very much!

                      5. borderline motive/cut off
