  • aviation_nic - Prescreening request/editing advice

Hi, I recently got back to Jetphotos and want some feedback on editing style. Both images have uneven lighting on aircraft (but I don’t think it’s backlit, let me know) so I’m not sure if this is acceptable, needs more editing, or simply discard. Also, the British Airways 787 seems soft and blur after resizing to 1280 pix. Two photos attached, thank you!

edit: I added a third picture which was sharpened more before resizing, I think it might get rejected for over sharpening, let me know.

Should I sharpen more to compensate for the softness during resize?

If you edit in Photoshop i recommend using billinear smooth when downsizing and billinear interpolation when exporting that gets the best results for me.

          Thanks! Will try it out.

            Hey, I'm not a screener:

All three pictures can be rejected due to backlit.
Apart from that: 1 and 2 are too soft. 3 is underexposed, not centered and I think there is a dust spot above the right engine.

            Best regards

Thank you! Addressing the softness now, underexposed yes as I only adjusted sharpness to try it out for img 3. However, I can’t seem to locate the dust spot. I think I’m not experienced enough to look for it. It is supposed to be discoloured dark spot right?

              thanks.

Dark, soft, overprocessed, compression. Not backlit.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I edited the 787 image again, I think it’s over processed now after trying to save the uneven lighting situation (let me know if there’s a way to save it without over processing). Please do Let me know how else to improve here and I will apply it to other pictures with more favourable lighting. Thanks!

                        Soft, compression, overprocessed, borderline dark/contrast.

Editing halos almost certainly from whatever you're doing to 'save the uneven lighting situation'.

Not a screener but lighting seems ok in this case, no need to save it. Remember to leave the highlights/shadows/clarity sliders untouched when editing such “blue sky background” images, otherwise overprocessing will definitely be an issue.

Please be careful to not give bad advice. The light is quite harsh, so leaving it untouched would likely lead to a rejection.
