  • MarijndBie - prescreening request / editing advice

    Hello all,

I took these photos at EWR today and would love to hear feedback regarding the editing I have done so far.

My main concerns are oversharpening and overprocessing, as well as compression issues. Any advice is appreciated as I am completely new to this.

    Thank you in advance!

Hi, not a screener but 1 and 3 would probably be contrast rejections that aren’t fixable, as there is no direct sunlight on the aircraft. 2 might be workable, but I’ll leave it to the screeners to give their opinion.

      1. soft/blurry, dark, contrast, noisy, dirty. not fixable.
      2. soft, noisy, dark. probably not fixable.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll see if I can find success with different photos. My worry is that all of them are too soft, as they were captured on a Canon 350D with the 75-300 lens.

I think your setup is sufficient for jetphotos, i use a canon 7d and a canon 55-250mm is ii, compared to yours my body is better but lens maybe not, the 350d is still a pretty capable camera. In my opinion, as far as shooting goes you should be working on shooting at a lower iso, that you could achieve by shooting in conditions with better lighting, and using a lower shutter speed for me i can go down to 1/500, but that is different for everybody. I don't know your exact settings, but you should be using in my opinion at least f6.3, as we both have kit lenses they usually dont get good sharpness under f6.3. what could also be a problem is if you are cropping too much, if you're not already try shooting tighter so you need to crop as little as possible in post. Now for the post processing, your photos here are pretty soft and dark, dark should be an easy fix, but the softness might be caused by bad shooting conditions, could be focus, lens softness (can be fixed with aperture) or bad post processing and export settings. For me Photoshop works much much better when it comes to resizing, but you could also make lightroom work.
If you need any further help feel free to send me a private message.

Besides the poor lighting, my guess is you're simply too far from the aircraft to get decent results.
