  • Prescreening Request/Editing Advice - 717Aviation

Hello aviators! I have yet to have a jet photo uploaded to the database, with more than a ton of rejections, I want to know what I need to improve and what is
    wrong with my current edits
    Thank you!

Hello sir, I’m not a screener so wait for their official response but by the looks of it your photo is under sharpened and soft. The lighting of the photo and the exposure you used would lead to a contrast rejection as well. Also make sure you try to get the entire plane in the frame, otherwise try to get most and leave a note for the screeners saying that you had creative framing. Sharpening really depends on your camera and your camera settings, how still you hold your camera, e.c.t. You should also take your photos is really good lighting, you shouldn’t need to expose your photos more that 0.20. Most people don’t even need to edit their photos at all except for framing because their photos are in perfect lighting and optimal conditions. It won’t take too much longer for your first photo it’s actually not bad. You’ll get there soon mate good luck to you in the future.

This is heavily compressed and heat hazed. Your camera might be the issue on the former - unfortunately lower quality equipment will make it more difficult to have images accepted. What are you using?

Sorry, I use the Canon EOS R50, the reason why it is heavily compressed it because I resized it to 1280x900 from its original 6000x4000 because of the length and height requirements, it looks heat hazed because I edited the temperature to a more whiter look instead of the morning yellow glow, if you would like to take a look at the original here it is but a little compressed to make the 2MB requirement (4500x3000)

I'm also wondering if this close-up is ok?Click image for larger version Name:	717AviN491HAoriginal.jpg Views:	0 Size:	620.0 KB ID:	1204442

I don't think you understand what heat haze is. In any case the camera should be of good enough quality if paired with a decent lens.

Thanks for posting a fuller-res image, it gives a better idea of what we're working with. Quality issues are mainly due to:
          1. original is very soft, yes, partially due to heat haze
          2. edit (first image posted) was very poor. someone with better skills/experience would likely produce a better result, but due to the lack of quality of the original, there's not a great chance that would be acceptable for the DB.

Feel free to ask if you have specific questions.

                  Soft/heat hazed. Not fixable.

                      Compression, borderline overexposed.
