  • Is this photo salvageable?

    Hello Everyone,

The attached image was rejected for "Too much or too little contrast". I assume it was the latter. I took this photo in the clouds, so it didn't give me much to work with, unfortunately. Does anyone think it's possible to salvage it? I could change the color of the clouds to a bluish one, which makes it look like a blue sky with some wisps of clouds, but that doesn't feel right.

Thank you for your advice in advance! Click image for larger version

My suggestion, though I'm not a screener : There is no sunlight, so you better keep it for your personal collection. Changing sky/cloud color is not allowed, you may get warned or banned for that.

Thank you Raihan! I'll keep it in my personal collection. I also sent it to the crew so they have it. Any chance you can let me know what you think of these other pictures that I took on a clearer day? As for the two United photos, I am aware that they are too similar and thus would only be able to upload one of them, so I'll need to pick the better of the two.

      Thanks again for your help!

Am I crazy for thinking these all look fake? The shadows on the ground do not match the illumination on the plane.

It's either too much exposure on the image, or its the angle at which the aircraft are banking.

I made some adjustments in Lightroom but these are not fake images nor are they two images that were composited. All of them are in a bank. I was also about 1,000 feet above each of them when taking these photos, so the camera was pointed downward. This is why you see the sun glistening on the windows of some of them.

Absolutely insane images. Apologies for assuming they were fake . These out of LAX?

No worries at all! These are all on the IRNMN TWO arrival into LAX over Malibu. How’d you know they’re in the LA area?

                  Nice shots there, cool angle.

I would definitely work on the levels and curves to give them better contrast (see example below). Also adding a tad of saturation might help. Finally, give that 747 more space around it, I believe it would look way more impressive with such a background and angle.

                  Hope it helps,

                  Alex

Thank you Alex! I appreciate your advice and example. I actually had it look more like yours originally, but thought it would get rejected for the terrain being too bluish, so I dialed it back to make it look more like what I was actually looking at in person. What do you think of this? Also for the 747, I was under the impression that the aircraft should pretty much be edge to edge or the photo would get rejected. How far out do you think I should pull the crop? Also, would you say the terrain behind the 747 is too blue? I'm leaning towards adjusting the white balance to fix that.

                    Thanks again!

Eh it just looks like SoCal and given the types of aircraft and airlines, it was fairly obvious to me
