Just apply USM to the full sized image - Amount 50%, radius 0.4, threshold 0 until you see jaggies on the trailing edges. Then remove the last pass of USM and add a copy layer. Apply USM until all the image is sharp then rub out the oversharp areas with the eraser. When you resize the image down you may need to repeat the process but use radius 0.3. Takes some getting used to but that shot is not easy as the nose section is very soft compared to the rest of the aircraft.

Impressive result Jid. It would be very friendly if you could explain me which settings you choose.

    Thanks for your help!

Well, so the Cathay shot I edited for fra-spotter got rejected for bad over/under contrast. In case anyone else wants to have a go at it, this is the link to the orginial: http://iciclelanding.com/aperture?ph...w=photo&size=0

    Good luck!

    Amount: 50%

    Threshold: 0 levels

Can you send me over the originals so I can have a go at them?
Gianluca, It's not just your shot that looks like that. It's also fra-spotter's edit...

Bits of the Cathay shot look oversharpened and the other bits look pretty soft.

    Hi,

thanks for your reply and this link. I already tried a bit but I didn't get it that sharp like you did. Could you please tell me your usm settings?

    thanks!

Another question: will this one have a chance?

I recommend using the JID method: http://www.btinternet.com/~victoryhall/workflow/

You should come up with something like this:

As to the TG pic, no clue about the digital manipulation.

I need some help with photo-editing

    Hi,

these are some of the first shots I took with my new camera. The first one (TG 744) was rejected for being Digitally Manipulated, the second one (CX 744) for Undersharpened (Soft) & Bad (Over/Under) Contrast. Can someone please explain to me why TG is digitally manipulated? I also would be grateful if somebody could explain how to get CX more sharpen? I already used Photoshop's unsharpen mask but obviously it was not enough If someone has a german or english tutorial (for me as a layman...) how to edit aviation photos with Photoshop please send me the link or an email. Thanks!

Thanks for your help in advance.

These are the two rejected photos:

This is the third photo I took that day, and it was accepted:
