Hi,
Light is okay but it looks like the whole tail is all blurry... Maybe you can save it by sharpening it better (would be interesting to see the full size pic) ?
I am unsure about the following 2 photos (Bad Motive). The first one is the A380 testbed in Dresden/Germany and the second one is a photo of some gangways during sunset.
The 3rd photo is a completely edited photo but it looks kinda weird to me and I don't know exactely why.
It is an SP, but it also a backlit SP im afraid...
If it was just top lit as you say, then the aircraft on the right hand side of the photo would also suffer from the same shadows. They do-not however, and the sides visible are all in the sun meaning the sun was either in front of you or in-front and slightly off to the left of the photo.

I don't understand why being backlit is such as issue if you can still see detail on both the aircraft and the surrounding area like this one. From an aviation enthusiast's point of view (your site's main market I'd assume), this image is of interest to me.
Why does it seem that an image is almost an automatic rejection if backlit?
Andrew, the backlight simply kills the contrast on any object. Back light can be brought in to add something special to a photo, as for example silhouette shots or reflections on a close up etc. Other than that, a backlit photo will be rejected. Sure, we're aiming at the aviation enthusiasts, but we also want to show the aircraft in their best light.
