  • What is similar photo?

Last September I uploaded few pics of Migs and another millitary aircrafts grounded at Kosice airport/LZKZ that are prepared to join Aviation museum collection after its reopening next weekend. All aircrafts were moved from taxiway to closed millitary stand and parked next to each another. Last week I uploaded new pics of that collection and most of them were rejected with this reason
    Similar photo uploaded

Can I have your opinion please? If it is only second upload for each aircraft taken year later on diferent position from different angel is it really so similar? Should I appeal rejected photos?

    No

    Similar
Means, that you have a similar photo already in the db. Please upload only your best photos, try other angles, be creative. Similar refers to same registration, same angle/composition or same background, even if taken at different dates. However, if a new uplod is of a significantly better quality, we may cosider to accept it. For cockpit shots or wing views, do not upload photos of any detail. We will only accept a certain number of cockpit or window shots taken in the same aircraft.

Couple of spelling errors for attention.....in fact the whole page would benefit a run through a spell checker.

But those are different angels (although only slightly) but imho definately a different position of the aircraft as can be seen in the backgorund.

If you feel that you have not been fairly treated I would suggest an appreal.

I am really surprised, because I think that for some people is MIG21 interesting airplane, maybe more interesting than 241st picture of the same BA B747 landing at heathrow (humor)
        More post please

This is one of the many grey areas aka "borderline". In my opinion, the second photo doesn't add a lot to the db, as it is indeed very similar. It's a similar angle and composition. How about a close up, a nose shot, and so on?

And no, there is no set number of degrees for "diferent angle".

@Greg: thanks for the hint regarding the spelling mistakes.

            One more try

If you realy think that the first rejected pic is similar to one already in DB I think I shlould give up uploading photos here because I am blind. Even I should stop taking pics of aircrafts - everything is already here at JP.NET

Gerado just mentioned the second pic. In that case the angel is very similiar, as is the background, while the already acepted picture is even sharper to my eyes.

He did not say anything about the others, for which I could understand an appeal.

I see, but I have 5 more pics here, that are diferent so I am asking what is diferent angel and is it worth to appeal rejection. I got 1 No and 1 Yes. That also interesting for the future. Should I waste my time with picturing the plane already in DB if it is not at least from another site? Or if it is not landing?

OK I put it simpel I think the other 5 are worth to be appealed. I would give reasons to appeal by saying that the pics in the db are one year old, those are rare planes and that it is interesting to note that they have not been scrapped yet. I would also tell the screeners that the planes have been moved in the meantime.

It might be worthwhile to point out that a "similar photo uploaded" rejection applies to pictures taken by the same photographer and not pictures similar to other photographers.

As an example, there is a picture of mine of an airliner on approach to Heathrow ( I forget which one it is ) which is virtually identical to one taken by another photographer on the same day and place. Its so identical that we must have been standing within arms reach of each other and pressed the shutter release within a second of each other.

As far as your Mig pics are concerned I have to agree that the fact that they are taken around a year apart and in a different location, are different in angle of view, are of rare aircraft and are unlikely to be photographed by anyone else uploading here, should be a good enough reason to appeal successfully. They're nice pics at any angle.

^^Suly, Im sorry to hear your appeals got rejected.

And I can quote Brian on what he said, but I wont, cause you prolly already know what I think of your photos. I certainly dont agree with the screener, saying it is very similar to your previous uploads. Wasnt it possible for you to get head-on shots of the aircrafts ?

I got this sample rejected long time ago, but here's a sample on what is a similar photo upload is. Im not sayng its that similar either though.

I have some head shots ready but my upload slots are limited to hudge rejection factor so I have to wait for two weeks

                              Can I send ready message?
