I need your help with scanner.

Hey guys.
So I'm taking photography course in school this year, and we will be taking photos using oldschool cameras, shooting on film, and then printing pictures. I want to scan all the pics i take to have them on my hard drive, to share with friends etc. I'll use the scanner at my parent's wokplace. BUT I have NEVER used a scanner before. My question is what settings should I have on the scanner to get the best quality. Btw. I'll be scanning Black&White as well as colour images.

First and foremost, get a good print (not decent, has to be top quality), then use the scanners highest quality settings.
