SETTING the SCANNER ....

before catching and subsequently digitalizing the picture, one usually must set the scanner. Question of the time is

Next to clicking on
this small red "Tools" button and then
to "curves" in the unraveling relevant mask

One has the option to rise the oblic central bar, or lower it

Now the question

Which are your average figures for inputs and outputs
126 by 129 ? 120 by something ?
Now what are yours

Alain, I use a Nikon Coolscan VED. The only thing I have set on it is the digital ICE. Everything else is set to neutral. I find this works best and all adjustments can then be carried out in Photoshop.

I've tried using the in-scanner settings and find that A) It takes an age to actually scan anything and B) It's a very hit and miss operation with having to make adjustments every time I scan a slide. Especially with the older slides, which may have some deterioration of quality and colour.

Anyway, that's my two-pennorth. Hope it makes sense.

I would also say, put everything on neutral and work on the pic in PS.

In the meantime, I managed to hook the elusive business owner who is not a seasonned technie but also suggested to
- "restore values by default" anytime before use
- watch that everything in on "neutral" ,
