  • Help with Rejection

    Hi,

I have had my first photo rejected today, and yes it was my first uploaded..

    This is the photo:

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=1323633

The reasons for rejection are as follows:

    - Dark / Underexposed
    - Undersharpened (Soft)
    - Horizon unlevel
    - JPG compression artefacts

Now, the screener says that it is slightly leaning left - how do I correct this?

Also it says it is soft and needs sharpening - he or she recommends using 'Unsharp Mask'. What is this and how do I do it? Is it a program I need to download.

    The screener's comments:

'Screener's Comments: Slightly leaning left. Try sharpening with Unsharp Mask, and levels to make the highlights brigher. Use our forum for questions.'

How do I make the highlights brigher too?

I use Photoshop 7.0 and I'm very sorry for all this but I'm new and just looking for some advice.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

    Michael

    Hey Michael

to adjust the level you need to use the measuring tool. You can right click on the little dropper and have several different options. You need to click on the ruler and select the measuring tool, then you can make a line along the taxiway the aircraft is on, once you have done that click image>rotate canvas>arbitrary. it will have the amount you need since you use the measuring tool. The USM can be found by clicking on Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp mask. Levels can be found by clicking on Image>adjustments>Levels. There is an option for Auto levels I think.. But you might want to learn how to mess around with them. As far as the JPG compression artefacts
I am not sure how that is fixed or what it is.. Hope this helps out a bit

If I can also suggest to try and just upload pics of straightforward, full aircraft side on shots at first because it will be easy to get a rejection on a shot like your first simply because it is a bit trickier to get right!

Once you then start getting a few accepted you can compare to the rejections and you will get more of a feel for what is acceptable (covering a multitude of reasons!).

You are doing the best thing already though by giving it a go and asking questions on here bcos there are some VERY good and helpful photographers knocking about, as I have found to my own benefit!
