  • need review from the booth on rejection

    I had uploaded a picture which was rejected for airline. I appealed it thinking they had meant the fact I put C-130J-30 which scramble confirmed.

    The reply I got is below, the airline is USAF, not ANG

    Your appeal for photo id 1338337 has been processed and has been rejected.

    Rhode Island doesn't have an AF wing, only the 143rd AMW and the aircraft clearly says Rhode Island Air Guard above the wheels. I replied back to my email this afternoon but never heard back.

    All my other shots of this unit's aircraft are under ANG.

    This is one big grey area I find when uploading pics of US Hercs.
    They all regardless of being a regular or guard unit have U.S. Air Force plastered along the fuselage and USAF on the wings. As you pointed out the ANG units have their Guard unit name above the wheels and usually have ANG on the tail. Your pic clearly meets the criteria as belonging to a guard unit. Maybe the database selections need updating. I would go for all ANG aircraft being listed under the title USAF - ANG or just as USAF with the unit being entered into the comments field.

      It's always been an odd one, they write USAF on the aircraft as well as xxxx Air Guard and ANG.

      The issue of info comes down to what appears in searches. I would suggest United States - US Air Force (USAF) would be better for a general search with a keyword search then revealling anything in your remarks. So load these birds as USAF and write the specific Air Guard unit in the remarks please.

      Sorry it took a rejection for this to come up.

        AJ, the tankers are the same way though. The aircraft says U.S. Air Force on the side, but the tail is usually the give away. My home unit is ANG, but there is are Reserve units as well as active

        [photoid=5929956]

        Reserves- AFRC
        [photoid=5715007]

        Where you get an actual AF unit, they have AMC on the tail
        [photoid=5737150]

        They have United States- Air Force Reserve & United States- Air National Guard as airline options. Shouldn't they be used to help narrow down the search when you're looking for something?

        I would hope those two were added to make the DB more informative and correct. I hope we don't have to group them all into USAF

        Really, all the guard/reserve unit aircraft fall into this issue.

          I'll discuss it with our expert, Nathan, and get back to you. I hope you understand the reasons I stated above.

              Strictly speaking, "United States - Air National Guard" is incorrect, since each individual States National Guard, both air and land, is answerable to the individual States Government and not the Federal Government.

              (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve..._United_States)

              Thus, in this case, United States - Rhode Island Air National Guard would be correct. However, this would make searches much more difficult and would restrict the photos available to someone looking for a "USAF" aircraft.

              Thus, at the moment anyway, "United States - US Air Force (USAF) is the best option and put the State Guard in the comment field (to allow someone looking for that particular State Guard to find their photos).

                  OK, so USAF is the new standard, and not ANG? I see all of my photos have been converted to USAF.
                  Thanks

                    why the change, this hasn't been called out in any of my 500 shots to date which are 90% ANG.

                    There are 2 entries for United States- Air National Guard and Reserves. I'm assuming they were put there for a reason?

                    this makes no sense....

                      .
                      Actually that's not totally true, the personnal belong to the state, but the aircraft belong to the Federal Government. This came up with all the BRAC closures up here where the State Guard units said they were going to fight it and try to keep thier wings. They were told they could keep the people, but the aircraft belonged to the Feds and were going where ever they wanted.

                      So, if Delta owns Song, should all the Song airlines really fall under Delta Airways and not Song?

                        I have just edited the comments line of my ANG Herc pics to the following format:

                        [photoid=5858649]
                        146th AW California Air National Guard

                        This gives the Unit and ANG State Details.

                        Would it be possible for Military Aircraft only that a remarks box be added to the Aircraft details section of the upload page that allows us to enter the unit or squadron that an aircraft belongs to. Then have this appear in between the line that says United States - US Air Force (USAF) and the aircraft type line.
                        This would then free up the general remarks box for specific remarks about the photo in question.

                        Mark

                          As I wrote in your other topic, why not add it in the remarks field? Having new db fields just makes the screeners job a tad more complicated. Because first thing which will happen, will be corrections of exactly those entries.

                            Gerardo,

                            I hadn't considered that. I have actually found that adding the html code for break at the end of a line in the remarks column, forces a new line to be used. This actually then allows what I am looking for - operating unit on the top line of the remarks followed by other photo specific remarks on a different line.

                              Dave, I'm sorry this solution doesd satisfy you. Nathan did a complete review of types under the USAF which has been excellent, however other branches of the military are still being uploaded.

                              We still have entries coming in for Swissair, the Soviet Air Force etc on today's aircraft. Keeping the database accurate is a lot of work and occasionally we have to go for a simple option.
