Are they taken through glass? There seems to be halos on them.

They're a little noisy / blurry for originals, but give them a go in photoshop, see what you can do.

No they're not taken through glass, but I don't know if the use of the Fast Shutter mode could have done this?

in short, no, they're blurry & backlit and no amount of editing will bring them up to standard.

Except for the backlit/toplit problem they are not all that bad...a fair effort with a Canon A85.
Better lighting conditions, manual control of your camera, and knowing its limitations will result in greater success.
