Halos arn't something you fix, they're created generally by bad processing techniques. What exactly are you doing to the images after they come off your memory card?

It would help a lot if you just post the rejected photos here to give a better description what you're doing wrong with the processing of your photo.

Have a look at the equalized version of your picture. There's a very strong light halo all around the plane. Please notice the dustspots too.
Halo comes from bad editing, very often due to overuse of the shadow/highlight tool.
ALWAYS equalize your pics before uploading, this would avoid rejection from the halos and also the dustspots.

Have a look at this great tutorial and practice editing. http://www.jid.me.uk/workflow/

            Hope it helps
            Regards

If you're working with RAW files and have Adobe Camera Raw installed in CS4, I suggest you refrain from adjusting clarity when processing the RAW file. I've come to notice it produces halos as well. Just a tip...

...and your last example also shows the classic effect of using Nikon's in camera facility called "D Lighting". Did you use that ? If you did then that image will be useless to you. You can't process out the effects of D Lighting.

If you use shadow/highlight then create a background layer first before processing.

Process the aircraft and then delete the background. This will delete any artefacts created by using shadow/highlight.

                  Flatten the image and save.
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !
