  • contrast rejections; help needed.

    Dear screeners,

Last weeks I had several pics rejected for (for example) a contrast issue; most of them rejected for too less contrast.
    Here are some examples:

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=2570879

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=2570867

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=2567578

This contrast-issues confusing me, as I don't know how to deal with it.
It seems the weather/grey background is a big part of the problem, but what are the guidelines for contrast?
Sharpness, levelling, colour etc can easily be fixed during editing, but what about those contrast issues?

Checking the pre-screen and rejection-helpthreads; it seems I am not the only one with this questions.

Please be so kind and give me/us some advice, with some examples maybe, how to handle in difficult light circumstances.

    Thanks in advance,

    Freek

    Freek,

    Taking them in order...

    1. ....is dark/under. Brightening it up add a touch of contrast will fix it.

    2. ....is definitely lacking in contrast. To fix this go to Levels. Bring the left and right arrows on the baseline of the histogram in so that they touch the points where the graph meets the baseline. That should fix the contrast.

    3. ....again adjust the dark tone end ( left side of the graph ).
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !

Thank you (again ) for your help ,Brian

      It was much appreciated.
So, it seems that moving the arrows in in the Levels- histogram more precisely to the points where the graph meets the baseline will do in most of times?

I'll have a look at it with my other pics

      regards

and here I am again, with this photo also rejected for contrast

          http://www.jetphotos.net//viewreject_b.php?id=2573605

So, moving the left arrow (in the Levels- histogram)to the right should do the thing?

Adjust both left and right arrows. Ignore the small blob at the extreme left of the baseline. Bring the left and right arrows in to meet the main body of the graph.
