For me the contrast is acceptable, though it is a tad dark. But I think it is too soft.

Probably.. I mean, I can see the intention, but the jet wash just isn't visible/striking enough to justify it for here I think.

First might be fixable as it's just a bit flat, but the second might be more of a challenge due to the sky being nearly blown-out as it is.
