This image was recently rejected for contrast, and whilst I disagreed with the reason, it is usually not something that can be appealed. Since then, I have seen several similar accepted images with poor contrast and many others with flat or bad lighting.
I came across this nice shot, and I can't figure out the difference in contrast/lighting that warrants one to be rejected but the other accepted.

What are your thoughts?
Slight magenta tint, but contrast ok for me on yours..though I can see how it would be borderline.
I wouldn't use darkly painted mil-jets as a judge of what's acceptable for contrast, but I'm sure you could find more than a few civilian aircraft taken in less than ideal light. Sometimes just comes down to subjective nature of screening.
I seem to be having problems centring images. I've not had this problem before, and I'd like to correct it quickly. This is the latest image rejected for centring:

It is tricky, and I can tell you far more of such images get rejected than accepted. The best advice I can give it start with the largest file size possible so that you can shrink it down to hide most (if not all) of the flaws. Going from 7000+ pix to 1200 (or fewer) will do quite a lot to hide any quality issues.
Other than that, finding the right balance of ISO vs. shutter speed it personal preference, though you at least have a chance to 'fix' a noisy image, while a blurry image can't really have anything done to improve it.
On this subject, I'm experimenting with this image and looking for your observations.
Borderline dark/contrast, otherwise ok for me. Not sure if halo or just engine exhaust, but also appears to be slight halo on top of fuselage as well though that could also just be clouds.
Hi,
I submitted this and it got rejected for centring and part of aircraft cut off. I've reviewed it and I can't see the reason for either rejection. I've compared it with similar images I've had accepted and the framing is the same. Regarding the centring, its the same as other images.

In the original, the subject was too high. I lowered it, so I'm interested to see how far off-centre it now is (and the direction).
As an aside, are there any plans to change the guidelines for resubmission regarding subjectivity; specifically a rejection reason not present in the original submission appearing in the resubmission despite no changes made to the image?

Slightly hi, but centering is fine for me. Very slight halos, but also wouldn't have been an issue for me.
