  • It’s strange that after almost 800 photos in the DB you can’t tell that that crop very obviously doesn’t work.

I did not appreciate the ironic / sarcastic remark. Regards

As to my ho ho screeners is this type of crop more acceptable?

      • Your photo would benefit greatly if the crop didn't include too much of the aircraft. It doesn't balance and honestly doesn't look appealing. You should rather try cropping out the landing gear and include the front part of the engine as that will create a more balanced crop. You should also bring down the exposure a bit as your photo (from my own personal observation) seems to be a little bit overexposed.

Here is an example of one of my cropped photos that got accepted. https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9082668 Since it's a side on shot like yours I hope it helps just to see an example of what's acceptable.

You could also try a very close nose crop where just the front part of the aircraft fills the frame, like in this example of another one of my photos that also got accepted. https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9082721 Hope this helps.

Personally I'd rejected it for cut-off. It's not that this kind of pic is not avoidable so "what the hell , I will VA". Both the wing and the horizontal stabilizer could have been included in the frame. Once again, this is my opinion, the crop doesn't work for me , but it could be fine for another screener.

As per your rejected 789, even though I haven't screened it, I agree with Alex and the other screeners. I would have croped it either in front of the engine (personaly I find it better) or just right after the main landing gear, or I would have gone spotting with a smaller lense....

            Regards

I really really really do not understand crops and feel like truly not cropping anymore. Doggone it even the Turkish is a crappy crop???

              • Alberto, I am not a screener but here is a comment on the Turkish 737.
It feels like the photo has no focus and rather "favours" the left side of you subject because you are stretching your crop on the right (side of the photo) to include the full wing length and restrict your crop on the left to the end of the fuselage cutting off everything else. You really end up with a picture of "half a plane" here, if you understand my point.

Having studied other peoples crops a rough understanding is you either focus/include the total wingspan or just focus on the fuselage, often including the horizontal stabilisers. Those seem to work as the safest options for such angles.

Hey there I appreciate your kind words and helpful comments. But there are accepted photos like the one I am trying to post. Why do theirs get accepted - focus and sharpness apart.....?

Take this photo here which was accpeted: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9166890
I wanted to upload this photo but was told it looked akward - but I do not see any differnece in framing.... maybe the quality of the photo is a mess but not the framing.

As for the in flight Turkish 737 cropping I agree with gxaid that my photo is skewed to one side excessively compared to accepted photos.

The comment about your photo being "awkward" was for that photo here: https://www.jetphotos.com/viewqueued_b.php?id=6988497. The United you are showing lacks basic quality to start with, but is not in your list of rejected photos.

                          Hello Alberto,

As I've said more, cut it of behind the wheels in the case of the Etihad 787 as also mentioned by Alex.
Or cut it off behind the Etihad title.
I'll give you another cropped accepted photo of me. https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/8577887.
Cropped photos like these are also not included in FR24 is my experience.
I've also almost left cropping side-on shots tbh, but that's a decision everyone personal has to take.

                          All the Best.

                          Wilko

Back to my cropping issue - yes I know - not again
Here is my culprit photo which many of you deemed not OK due to centering, cropping, etc.

But my dear friends - this next photo is the same exact cropping and was accepted.

I just want the straight story - is this kind of cropping OK or not?
Or do female spotters get more relaxed rules? (just kidding)

                            Take care amigos

Always borderline, but the photo in the db is cropped closer to the tail, which does make it look more appealing.

                              • I lost my appeal regarding these two rejections but I think there is some confusion.

                                They are 2 different planes.
One has the rejection that the registration is wrong (uploaded in queue as TC-JRV but should be TC-JTM)
The other is fine and dandy (TC-JRV)

The error is only in the first photo - not the second.
You are penalizing the second when the first is subject to the error (and has been correctly rejected).
