                  I know not all screeners are the same but I've seen a few photos cut off with only the wing and cockpit will photos like this occasionally get accepted?

                    They can certainly be accepted, if done properly. Cutting the aircraft right in the middle through the main gear usually isn't considered proper, as there is no reason for such a crop.
