Ok, next time I'm going to try shooting from 7-8am. Do you think that should avoid most heat haze close up? Also is it normal with f/8 and ISO100-200 to get shutter speeds of 1/300-1/500?

Besides the time of the day you need to be closer to the subject to try to avoid heat distortions. About the shutter speeds it will depend of the light conditions as well.

3. soft/heat haze, dark



Would be rejected for soft, blurry, and too far.

Is this any better? Also, is it centering vertically or horizontally?

Hi and welcome to the forum. All photos are larger than the allowed size so I can not give you my opinion about it. Better edit and put in the JP standards before ask pre screening. Just a tip

I have a better picture of the Caravan, but there's a taxi sign behind it. I also have a lot of nice back lit photos.
