So as previously mentioned even when I do shoot in good lighting, my photos aren't sharp enough, so if it must be down to the editing as I've had photos on the same day accepted, it took me a full day of trial and error to get the VS A330 acceptable, once again thanks to dlowwa for helping me with that.

I do camera raw filter and high pass filter, should I just increase the amount of sharpening I do with both and add noise reduction with the camera raw filter too?

          So for number 4
I've increased the sharpness more than I usually would and here we go

Each individual photo will need to be processed separately, so it's difficult to make blanket statements about which steps to take. Personally, I usually apply sharpening after converting from raw, but I might not if the image is sharp enough straight out of the camera. I typically never apply any noise reduction at all, although I usually don't shoot at a very high ISO.

Tail is soft, but otherwise sharpness is ok.

I always shoot raw, edit raw export jpg. I now shoot at 200 but noise is sometimes visible.

Just to relieve some of the demand, for future use what am I looking for to check if my images are sharp?

Hard/clean (sharp) wherever there are transition areas. If you look at the previous image, the transition areas in the nose area (cockpit windows, etc..) are clearly defined, while the lines/transitions on the tail are not.

                    1. borderline, but might be acceptable
                    2. dark
                    3. contrast
                    4. soft/almost blurry

                    #2 fixable, 3 & 4 probably not.

                      1. Anything I can do to make it better than borderline?
                      2. Is that to do with brightness?

That's probably all for now, the rest of that day I used 1/25 for panning handheld, none of them turned out well at all, huge amount of dust and rest are overexposed. I panned 1/100 on the two LH A321 earlier in the thread and they look quite nice so next time I'll do the same but in much better light hopefully! But thank you for your help once again.

You could do localized sharpening on the tail, but not sure how much that will help, as I bet it was just really soft/blurry to start.

Yes, 'dark' implies a lack of brightness/exposure.

Both still likely soft rejections, and possibly dark as well.

Think this is much better in terms of brightness, I've redone the histogram and set the white point.

Exposure acceptable for me. Softness issue remains.
