i'd say if its a cloudy day, don't even bother going outside to spot.
My two cents...cloudy days are a great opportunity to practice. Practice panning shots, go scout a couple spots you've been wondering about, maybe tinker with some camera settings or try a new lens. I try to look at those days as a chance to expand my possibilities without worrying that I've wasted a good shooting day.

In case of contrast I wanted to both of these were taken when the sun was almost down the horizon.(Maybe considered as NIGHT SHOT).
Found those sharp enough as well.
