  • Did some spotting at Nellis for the first time and I am looking for feedback on these four photos. Thank you. For all 4, I would like to know if contrast is sufficient, if there is any heat haze visible, are there any issues with softness, any issues with overprocessing, and if there are any issues with jpeg compression artifacts. If there are any issues that I did not bring up, I would appreciate it if you brought it to my attention. Thank you.

All images are soft/blurry, and noisy. They look like heavy crops, so probably not fixable.

        • With these photos, I am worried that there might be some heat haze on these photos. I am asking for your advice on these 3 photos. If there are any other prevalent issues with these photos, I would appreciate it if you could bring that to my attention as well. Typically I ask for advice on contrast, exposure, and horizon with this specific airport. Thank you.

Probably going to be a problem (haze) on the first and third. Second one should be ok.

            • Thank you for you assistance on the previous batch of photos. For these next two I am looking for advice on whether there are any issues with:

              1) contrast and horizon

              2) Are there any issues with contrast, color, or over processing? Had to increase the contrast to account for the angle

                • I brightened up the A380 just a bit to make it less borderlin, please let me know if this fix has resolved the issue you stated.

I applied some contrast fix to the B777 photo, please let me know if this has fixed the issues you mentioned or if I went the complete opposite direction

I see minimal to no difference between the two.

Worse in this case. The problem is from this angle the majority of the subject (aircraft) is in shadow, and this presents a pretty harsh contrast with the otherwise bright sky. You could lift the shadows more, but at some point it's going to start looking unnatural. Better to pick a different angle to shoot from in the future where you can get more of the subject in direct light.

                    • I see what you mean, I did however increase the brightness slider from version 1 to version 2 before I submitted a new copy. I would never give you the same exact photo (unless I did so by accident, apologies)

I have changed it slightly again and have checked to make sure that I increased brightness to where it is noticeable, please let me know if changes are sufficient to bring it out of the borderline category

For this one I have made a significant change to the shadows, as you suggested, but attempted to make it look natural, while keeping some of the contrast. Please let me know if these changes work for you. Thank you

Still borderline, but better for brightness. However, in lifting this shadows, you've also made the aircraft look softer (and overall contrast weaker), which is not an unusual effect in doing so (increasing brightness).

Also brighter, and also same new problem as above, in that the contrast is more flat. You will never be able to do better than borderline on this one due to the angle, as I mentioned above.

                        • JetPhotos.com is the biggest database of aviation photographs with over 5 million screened photos online!

So I understand that this was rejected for over processed/bad postprocessing and the screener(s) did not leave any remarks as to what aspect of the photo was over processed. Could you shed some light as to the flaws of this photo specifically?

I went back and looked at the upload guidelines and read the category in which my photo was rejected, were there in fact any editing halos visible and/or did I overuse the noise reduction tool? Thank you for providing clarification

                              1. some vignetting visible yes, and compression as well
                              2. top left corner is dark, but not sure if that's vignetting or a natural effect

One of either two things probably: either the light halos around the wing, or the fact that the gradation in the sky could possibly not look natural.
