  • whats happening here?

    hi guys
can you tell me if this is a result of the conditions or the camera settings?

no blue in the sky color at all

Its over-exposed...the sky usually "whites out" when you over expose two or three stops.

i take my photos in P mode.

i have the exposure set to normally -.5 to -1

is that what you mean, though i will admit there has been alot of glare and some unfavourable conditions here atm. extremly bright!

No, how is the 300D metering the light? Spot or Evaluative? (Actually Jeff...I think you can't change that with the 300D)

Not sure about evaluative mode on a Canon, but unless that is a crop, I would have thought the exposure would be the other way around, as the sky seems to be the dominant area in the frame, and it should have received the most attention from the evaluation program. It should have exposed properly and the plane be slightly dark.

Does the D60 do center weighted? If so, then I would try using that mode. On a Nikon, the center focusing circle is used, and would have had half of the plane, and half of the sky to look at to evaluate exposure from. Start with exposure compensation at 0, shoot, check and adjust accordingly from the LCD histogram.

You're also facing the sun... A litle haze in the sky from smog/dust/watervapour can reflect the sunlight and turn the sky white when facing the sun...

The sun appears to be at 2 almost 3 o'clock judging by the shadow. Not ideal, but workable.

the sun wasnt directly behind my back, more like on top of me! i think i went a little to late in the morning.

the sky had lots of white scattered cloud, not much grey, and the sky was a terrible blue, best way to describe the conditions. DIRTY.
