  • Help: bad cropping!

Yesterday 5 photos of mine where refused for being bad-cropped. Can anyone tell me what I should do now?

These two photos where at first refused for being too far away. I cropped, sharpened etc them and now get bad-cropping.

    Refused outright for bad-cropping.

    Peter,
Nice shots, seems like someone was nitpicking you. Could be the evolution of standards once again.

I would go easy on the sharpening...lots of grain and halos in those shots.

Ditto to what Jeff said. They actually looks overcropped to me. Like those subject too far away photos you cropped all the way in around 2x possible to leave the photo in poor quality. Also the white trim around the edge of the photo from the sharpening is a bit of a take-away from the photo. It all takes practice. I see your using the F717, and if the originals are really far away you might want to invest in the purchase of a teleconverter, like the Olympus B-300 or Sony HGD1758. PM me if you want any more info on them.

Most of these photos where shot at 1280x960. I cropped down the photos to 1024x768. Therefore I should not have lost any quality on the photo.

The DAS DC-10 and the Martinair shot (side-on) where shot at 2048x1536 and downsized. After that I did a little bit of cropping, but not much.

Well there's your first problem. Always shoot in the largest resolution. Then level the horizon, do any cropping needed and add a little bit of sharpening. Then re-size it down to 1024, add any more sharpening you see nessicary and it should be good. Trust me you will find much higher quality images when shooting in max. resolution.

Thanks for all your help! I followed your advices and the photos have been accepted. They do seem to have the white border you where talking about, and I assure you that the border was not present prior to upload! Kind a weird.
